DANIEL REINHART CONTINUE 75 YEARS OF PHARMACY SERVICES

In the early 80’s, Daniel took over the long-standing Dexter’s Pharmacy. Initially out of college, Daniel used his degree in biology from University of Buffalo in his role at Sister’s Hospital. Counter to beliefs, at the time, there were limited options for upward mobility in the local job market for biology professionals. However, Daniel had no intention of relocating to a more plentiful job market. His family and friends were all here at home, in Buffalo. As luck would have it, a colleague suggested the field of pharmaceutical services. There was an abundant need locally as chains were rapidly expanding in the area. While working in genetics at Children’s Hospital, Daniel pursued his degree in pharmaceutical sciences.

Soon Daniel started working at the beloved Horowitz Pharmacy. When the opportunity arouse to purchase Dexter Pharmacy – he took a leap of faith. Daniel had studied the community, seen the demographic changes, and noted the lack of pharmaceutical services on the eastside…despite the growth of large commercials chains in the surrounding area. More importantly, Daniel took notice of the disproportional treatment of diabetes, hyper tension, and high blood pressure. The need was apparent and he felt it was his responsibility to keep Dexter’s Pharmacy in the community. Upon acquiring the operation, the first order of business was expansion. Daniel quickly got to work, doubling the business square footage and updating treatment options.

STANDING STRONG

Community Connection

Offers from Chains – Declined

Over the years, pharmaceutical chains continued to absorb local community-based pharmacies, purchasing their client files and inventory, then moving the pharmacy out of the community. Mr. Reinhart have been solicited several times with such offers – and each and every time they have refused. Daniel made good on his commitment to serving the community. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with families that have depended on Dexter’s for generations upon generations.

More to be Done

Not to be Underestimated

The newest encroachment comes by way of the social service medical system. Being that many of Mr. Reinhart’s customers utilize this subsidy, this medical insurance has access to a large share of Dexter’s customer database. Mr. Reinhart is finding that the state-wide medical insurance entity has been regularly contacting his customers and persuading them to use the insurance mail-order service. Dexter Pharmacy has offered delivery services for decades and yet this new competitor has made retention a challenge.

BETTER WITH TIME

Beyond Products…

And into Medical Services

Mr. Reinhart has held a vision of being able to offer medical services through an onsite clinic. Once the building receives its facade and interior improvements, he would be further encouraged to welcome medical service providers – knowing that the building would be better secured and well-lit.
